Igbo and Hausa engage in bloody clash in Kaduna over dog named Mustapha

A fight broke out in new Panteka market along the Nnamdi Azikewe bypass when an Igbo man allegedly named his dog Muhammad. The fight erupted when an Igbo man allegedly named his dog Muhammad. According to Daily Trust, the market was closed down by men of the Nigerian Police who restored peace after the fight broke out. Panteka market is a major spare parts centre which houses many mechanic garages in the state. According to an eyewitness, named Aminu Ibrahim said the trouble started when one Muhammad bought a dog and allegedly named it Ibere after an Igbo trader. Ibrahim said: “Since the boy named the dog after the trader, the trader had warned him on several occasions to rename the dog, but the owner of the dog Muhammad refused. ASUU strike update: ASUU holds decisive meeting today

The National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will meet today, Thursday in Abuja to discuss whether the strike would be called off or not, The negotiation team of ASUU had on Friday requested one week to submit the government’s offers to its members for consultation and report back to government. This follows the congresses held on Wednesday by ASUU with varying decisions on the government offer. A source in the union, anonymously, informed Premium Times that the national leadership of ASUU will meet on Thursday to decide whether the strike action be called off or continued. “NEC will hold a decisive meeting tomorrow and will collate the outcome of all branch meetings held,” the source said. Late Nollywood actor, Bossman to be buried in October

-Okwudili Chukwujekwu alias Bossman to be buried next month. The burial arrangements for late Nollywood actor, Okwudili Chukwujekwu, popularly known as Bossman has been released by his family. According to details on his burial poster, Bossman’s wake-keep will hold on October 4th, while his body will be laid to rest on October 5th at his hometown at Otolo Nnewi, Anambra state. Nigeria drop points in latest FIFA rankings

The latest FIFA rankings as released by the world football governing body, has seen the Super Eagles of Nigeria, drop position despite their recent impressive performance against African champions Cameroon in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped to 44th position in the latest FIFA world rankings, six places below their August 2017, FIFA ranking in which they occupied the 38th position. However, the Super Eagles made slight progress in the African rankings moving one spot to fifth position, ahead of African champions Cameroon. Egypt retained their number one spot in Africa followed by Tunisia, Senegal and Congo DR. IPOB MEMBERS KILLED POLICE OFFICER IN AN HOUSE ATTACKED IN UMUAIHA (BIAFRA) Members of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, have reportedly attacked the residence of Abia police commissioner in Umuahia, the state capital, Daily Post reported. Vehicles in the police boss’s house were reportedly found burnt with the rampage still on. Meanwhile, soldiers were accused of shooting at pro-Biafra agitators. Nigeria owes N19.63 trillion domestic debt – DMO

The federal and the state governments have accumulated a total of N19.63 trillion in debt as at June 30 2017, the Debt Management Office (DMO) reveals. According to the report on DMO’s website , it reveals that the external debt stock of both the state and Federal governments was N4.6 trillion, while the domestic debt stock of the Federal Government was N12 trillion. It said the domestic debt of states stood at N3 trillion. It also said the Federal Government spent N253.3 billion on domestic debt servicing in the second quarter of 2017, from April to June. According to the report, N87 billion was spent on debt servicing in April, N73 billion in May and N75.2 billion in June. Domestic debt is the amount of money raised by any government denominated in local currency and from its own residents. It consists of two categories: Bank and Non-Bank borrowing. French Ambassador seeks stronger economic ties with Lagos

Ambassador of France to Nigeria, Denys Gauer has described the Lagos state house of Assembly as  a symbol of democracy in Nigeria . Gauer said this during a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the house, Rgt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa on Friday. He says Nigeria and France have enjoyed good bilateral relations for many years, most especially in the area of security which was evident in its support of the fight against Boko Haram. Zamfara FRSC attacked by Unknown Gunmen

Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zamfara, has been attacked by unknown armed men,resulting in the death of an official,News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported. Naija News gathered that at about 10 a.m., over 20 thugs waylayed the office of the Tsafe command on motorcycles  and shot at an FRSC official. A source disclosed to NAN that “There was confusion as sounds of sporadic gunshots rented the air, while the road safety officials around scampered for safety in different directions. “However, one of the officials was unlucky as he was shot and killed by the attackers”. The source added that soldiers deployed to the scene of the attack killed one of the gunmen, while the rest absconded into the bush leaving their motorcycles behind. Three non-teaching university unions call off strike

Public universities across Nigeria may come alive soon, as striking non-teaching staff have agreed in principle to end their action. But the unions say they’ll need about a week to consult their members nationwide and take a decision on ending the strike. Representatives of the three unions, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, the Non Academic Staff Union of Universities, and the National Association of Academic Technologist, took the decision after a meeting with government, that ended this morning.
