End SARS: Naira Marley reacts as Falz, other celebrities protest in Lagos

Nigerian Singer, Naira Marley has reacted to the #EndSARS protest led by Falz, Runtown and other celebrities on Thursday morning. Falz and Runtown alongside other Nigerian Celebrities, took to the streets of Lagos protesting against the alleged illegal operations of SARS. They demanded the scrapping of SARS rather than banning or reforming it. But Naira Marley who backed out of his planned protest on Tuesday took to his Twitter page on Thursday to commend those who protested. He reiterated that him and his fans known as ‘Marlians’ would march on the streets of Lagos after this week if the Police fails to make changes as promised. Bauchi State governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, on Wednesday urged the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to fully join the campaign against rape and gender based violence in the country. The governor stated this on Wednesday while declaring open the one-day North-East zonal meeting of the NUJ at the Press Centre in Bauchi. Being the watchdog of the society, Governor Mohammed declared that journalists have vital roles to play in ensuring that the menace of rape and gender based violence in the society are reduced. “We have an issue on our front burner as journalists; that is the issue of rape and other gender based violence against women. Driver dies, 2 others sustain injuries in Bauchi multiple accidents

One person has reportedly died, while two others sustained varying degrees of injures in multiple road accidents which occurred on the Bauchi-Jos highway on Monday and Tuesday respectively. DAILY POST gathered that the deceased was the driver of a red coloured Opel Vectra commercial car, which had a head-on collision with another commercial vehicle, a Toyota Sienna on Tuesday. The driver, it was gathered, died on the spot, immediately after the collision. He drove in a Toyota Sienna, with the registration number, Abuja KWL 776 AZ. Earlier on Monday, two persons sustained injuries in an accident, which occurred at Buzaye, about 18 kilometres away from Bauchi metropolis. Cleric allegedly rapes 8 pupils Published on October 8, 2020

A Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday ordered that a 41-year-old cleric, Adam Faruk, who allegedly defiled eight pupils, be remanded in a correctional centre. The Lagos State Government, charged Faruk a Ghanian, whose address was not given, with eight counts bordering on sexual assault. The cleric, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, NAN reports. Justice Abiola Soladoye adjourned the matter until Nov. 16 for trial. Earlier, the state prosecutor, Mr Peter Owolabani told the court that Faruk committed the offence between November 2018 and February 2019 at the Islamic school located at No. 1, Jaiye Balogun St., Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos. SARS: Armed robbers’ll be happy – Ex-IG of Police warns against ban

  Mike Okiro, a onetime Inspector-General of Police, IGP, has cautioned against the ban of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). Okiro said the squad should be rebranded and refocused for effective service delivery rather than being banned. Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Thursday, the former IGP said the ban of SARS would lead to more robbery activities. Cadbury Bournvita trains 260 children in Tech Boot Camp across Nigeria

Following the successful maiden edition of the Cadbury Bournvita Tech Boot Camp, where 50 children were trained on technological skills in 2019, in Lagos State only, Cadbury Bournvita rolled out the 2nd edition, from 4th August 2020, to 4th September 2020. The programme, which was virtual, this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, had five streams of 52 children weekly. Political gladiators in Rivers State are currently being questioned at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the state Police Command over the scuffle that ensued between the motorcades of Governor Nyesom Wike and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. Report from Rivers State says a major disaster was averted when Amaechi and Wike met at a cross road in Nwanja area of Elekahia road, Port Harcourt. It is unclear who ran into the other, but dissenting reports from both groups say there was a scuffle but none of the gladiators, Wike and Amaechi were hurt. Rivers police rescues kidnapped lawyer, Bisola

A young Lawyer, Bisola Ajayi who was kidnapped last weekend has been rescued. DAILY POST gathered that Bisola was rescued by the anti-kidnapping unit of the Rivers State Police Command led by DSP Adewale. DSP Adewale, it was gathered led his men to a forest in Etche Local Government Area of the state where the kidnappers were hiding. Two suspects and an arm-dealer were arrested. The Rivers state Police Command is yet to release an official statement to the development. The twenty-five-year-old Lawyer, Bisola Ajayi, fondly called Paulette was abducted on Saturday night from her residence at the Rumukwurusi area of Obio-Akpor.    

BREAKING: Kaduna: Zazzau Emirate Council member resigns as El-Rufai appoints Emir

  An official of Zazzau Emirate, Aminu Yakubu-Wambai, has resigned his traditional title. Wambai was the Wakilin Raya Kasar Zazzau, a position he held for 19 years. The development comes hours after the appointment of Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli as the new Emir of Zazzau. Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, made the announcement on Wednesday. SARS: Police disperse, allegedly assault protesters in Lagos

  Some men of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, have dispersed youths protesting against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, unit of the Force. The youths protesting at Lekki tollgate, opposite Oriental Hotels in Lagos State were calling for the scrap of SARS due to their brutality and alleged unconstitutional activities. Police officers who were on ground dispersed the protesters while seizing their placards and assaulting some of them. SARS had come under intense criticism lately due to their assault on innocent Nigerians under the guise of enforcing the law. Despite the public outcry against the activities of SARS, the Force had insisted that its unit will not be dissolved. The Force, however, said SARS would be restructured for better performance.

BREAKING: Only university lecturers on IPPIS would get salaries – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has insisted that members of the Association of Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will get salaries. He stated this on Thursday in his annual speech to the joint session of the two Chambers of the National Assembly which is currently ongoing. In the highlight of the 2021 Appropriation budget being presented to the National Assembly, he explained that all sectors of the economy would get attention in 2021 budget allocation, but reiterated the Federal Government’s position on payment of salaries of University lecturers, saying that those lecturers who were captured in the IPPIS will continue to draw their salaries without any hitch. He advised the leadership of ASUU to understand the position of government, which he believes would remove fraud from the educational institutions.
