A traditional ruler in Anambra state, Ogirisi Igbo Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has threatened to unleash a traditional deity, Ogirisi against the All Progressives Congress, APC, if they attempt to rig the November 18 Anambra governorship election. Ezeonwuka issued the threat while reacting to APC's boast that the party will unseat the APGA government. In a statement, Ezeonwuka said election riggers would have the electorate who are vested with Ogirisi powers to contend with, stressing that the wrath of the gods of the land are stronger and the enemies of the state. The gunman in the shooting incident at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock. Paddock, a white male local resident, opened rapid-fire at an outdoor concert in the wee hours of the morning causing pandemonium among thousands of concertgoers until SWAT units found and killed him. Local media reports that about 50 people have died from the incident while no fewer than 200 sustained various degrees of injuries. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo called for calm after the shooter was taken out, saying that Marilou Danley, a woman he described as Asian and 4-foot-11, has been declared a person of interest following the bloody attack.

President Muhammadu Buhari and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday vowed to ramp up security and economic cooperation between Turkey and Nigeria. No fewer than 27 people have been killed after a gunman opened fire at a church during Sunday services in United States (U.S.), the police have said. The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, a small town in Wilson County, Texas. Police official Albert Gamez Jr confirmed the number of fatalities to CBS News. The gunman, who is reported to have been killed in the aftermath, entered the church and opened fire at around 11:30 local time (17:30 GMT). A bill seeking to prohibit the activities of secret cults scaled third reading at the Ekiti State House of Assembly on Tuesday. The substance of the bill is the prescription of the death penalty for those found guilty of breaching the law in that regard. Persons found guilty of aiding and abetting cultism would also bag life imprisonment. All that is left is for it to be signed into law by the governor. The new provision was an amendment to the law against cultism, enacted by Ayo Fayose during his first tenure as governor of the state. The earthquake was centred about 19 miles outside the eastern Iraqi city of Halabja at about 6.20pm UK time on Sunday.
